1 week old
Today the D is one week old. I can't believe it's been so long and yet I can't believe it's been that short. Part of me still feels like it's all so new: so many adjustments to make around the little guy joining the family, and every day brings something new. Part of me can't reconcile the notion that a mere week ago Damiano was still in my belly and we had no idea what he looked like.
So much has happened since a week ago: introducing him to friends, bringing him home, introducing him to Smokey, taking the first outing, having Chris return to work. We've been working on having him return to his "fighting weight" (as Chris calls it) before our first pediatrician's appointment, which is tomorrow. He seems to be filling out by the day, so he shouldn't be very far.
Things we've learned since he was born (in no particular order):
- we don't know who he looks like
- Chris is a burping pro
- carpal tunnel doesn't disappear the minute the child is born
- Smokey makes a perfect big brother
- life lived in 3-hour intervals makes it hard to accomplish simple tasks
- Damiano is surprisingly agile with his hands
- sleeping when he sleeps is the only way to remain coherent
- if we could bottle it, we'd make a killing on "eau de baby"
- laundry is a daily chore
- there's no limit to the amount of time you can spend staring at the baby
